“Grain full” period. “Silkworms start feasting on mulberry leaves” season.
This is the period in which all manner of living things start to flourish as the temperature begins to rise. Ears of wheat grow large in the fields, the green color of trees and plants turns darker, @serendella smiles becomes bigger and laughs louder.
The traditional Japanese calendar, rather than lumping every day into one of four seasons, is split into 72 different sections. Each of these sections sits within one of 24 periods, which are all given descriptively adorable names.
#tb to a year and some days ago when @francymorganti decided to get married following the jasmine blossoms (and intuitively also the most lovable Japanese micro-season) ♥️
A cool blend of an art gallery and a concept store that offers contemporary art photography, in a hip and cosy setting. Serving up coffee, gin cocktails (and a killer brownie), it strikes the perfect balance between reliability and playfulness.
An accidental dialogue between Lee Ufan and Irving Penn. Steel plates and a rock. Steel fragments and bones. Simplify and distill the idea of “bringing together nature and industrial society”. Investigate the visual intrigue of seemingly inconsequential debris and junk. #leeufan#irvingpenn#pacegallery#chewinggumiii
Wok-fried Guilin rice noodles at the sugar house restaurant. A selection of rum (front the in-house distillery) and sugar cane based cocktails at the 1969 bar. After drink movie at the gallery. #alilayangshuo
Tactile narratives around @alila.yangshuo by @vectorarchitects. It’s all about bamboo, mountain stone, reclaimed wood from the sugar mill’s old buildings, and a type of concrete indigenous to the region. 💯👌🏻
@vectorarchitects has transformed a disused sugar mill (which was constructed in the 60s) into a resort hotel (managed by @alilahotels group) featuring a bunch of new structures designed to complement the existing industrial architecture. The original buildings now contain amenities including the hotel’s reception, cafe, restaurant and bar, a gallery and a library. Flanking the old mill are a pair of new blocks housing a variety of rooms and guests suites. Really like the choice to use forms and materials that reference the existing architecture, creating a sense of consistency, but instead of simply copying the old materiality and texture, they tried to seek a nuance using more contemporary materials and construction methods. #alilayangshuo#vectorarchitects#china
