What is a .RTF file?
RTF is a portable rich-text document format. Opened by WordPad, Microsoft Word and most word processors.
- Did you know
- Microsoft created RTF in 1987, and it still opens in WordPad, Word and almost every word processor.
- RTF was formalised in 1987 by Microsoft Word developers including Charles Simonyi, and first shipped with Word 3.0 for Macintosh.
- Its formatting is carried by backslash control words within 7-bit ASCII text; Microsoft froze the specification at version 1.9.1 in 2008.
- What Analyser shows you
- Open lightweight document and markup formats as selectable page previews: Rich Text Format (RTF, control words stripped to readable prose), AbiWord (ABW), FictionBook e-books (FB2), Hangul HWPX, MHTML web archives (the saved HTML rendered with scripts removed) and Safari .webarchive saved pages (every frame rendered, so Word Online and webmail pages show their text, with the stored images in a grid), plus markup and typesetting source - DITA, TEI, JATS journal XML, reStructuredText, AsciiDoc, Org-mode, Textile, TeX/LaTeX and BibTeX - shown with every page selectable and copyable. Also opens the small sidecar files unpacked from 3MF and OOXML bundles: OPC relationship XML (.rels) and MD5 checksum text (.md5).
- Open a .RTF file
- Drag a .RTF file onto the Analyser home page (or tap to pick one). It opens entirely in your browser - nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and it works offline once installed.
